How the simulator works

Case studies that unfold over three sections

Each case study follows a client from the first meeting through two counseling sessions. You read each part, answer its questions, then move on, just like on the real exam.

Once a section is submitted, you cannot go back to it. Earlier sections stay readable, because the case builds over time.

  1. Intake

    The client data, the presenting concern, history, risk and mental status. Then the first questions.

  2. Session 1

    The counseling work begins. New information, new decisions about assessment and treatment.

  3. Session 2

    The case develops further. Questions test how you adjust your approach as the client changes.

Do I need proof of purchase?

Can I pause an exam?

Can I retake an exam?

How is my score calculated?
Your score is the percentage of questions you answered correctly. Unanswered questions count as incorrect. It is a practice benchmark, not an official score or a predicted NCMHCE result.
Which exam format do the online exams follow?
The online exams follow the current NCMHCE format (11 case studies, through June 30, 2027). NBCC has published a redesigned format that takes effect on July 1, 2027. The reasoning skills apply to both versions. Always confirm the current format at nbcc.org.
